Sector

The Client

A privately held specialist building services business with two decades of trading behind it. Workshop, installation capability and credible reputation already in place. Turnover in the £2m to £3m range. The order book runs across education, healthcare, industrial and commercial sectors, with live relationships at main contractor, consultant, architect and end-user level.

The business is profitable, established and now at the point where the next phase of growth is a commercial and strategic question rather than a build-from-scratch one. The route to real margin is the integrated package sale, putting scope together at design stage with the project team rather than competing component by component. The platform to sell that way is in place. The seat that drives it commercially is the one being recruited.

The Role

Full operational and commercial ownership of the business. The P and L is yours. The bids, the pipeline and the order book are yours to deepen and grow. The workshop, project delivery and commercial functions report in to you.

The part that makes this rare is that you do not lose the customer-facing side of the job. You are still the senior face of the business in front of the supply chain. You still own the relationships that win the work. You still close the deals that matter. You just do it as the person who runs the business rather than the person who carries the bag for someone who does.

Day to day you will lead bid strategy and pricing, own the relationships that move the needle, drive the integrated package sale through the team, and hold the commercial line on margin, cash and delivery once the work is won. You will represent the business across the supply chain, at framework conversations, trade events and key client reviews.

A leadership seat with the keys actually handed over. Not a sales title dressed up as a directorship.

The Candidate

You have built a career in construction, building services, fit-out, M and E or specification sales. You know the supply chain the way you only know it after years of working it. You have sold scope into projects, you have been in enough pre-start meetings to know where the money is made and lost, and you can hold a technical conversation with engineers and end-users without pretending to be the deepest expert in the room.

You will be at home here if you have hit your BD numbers consistently, you have either had a taste of running a business unit or sat one seat away from the GM for long enough to know exactly what you would do with the chance, and you are ready for the step up that your current employer is unlikely to give you.

One technical hard line. You can read a drawing. Everything else is about commercial instinct, supply chain credibility and the appetite to run a business rather than just sell into one.

This is not a role for someone trying to step into operational leadership for the first time without commercial credibility behind them. It is for someone whose only real question is whether the next platform is worth the move.

The Rewards

A genuine GM seat. A profitable business with the workshop, the reputation and the pipeline already in place. A credible technical team underneath you who already know how to deliver. An ownership structure above you committed to the next phase of growth and ready to back the person running it.

£70,000 base plus £20,000 to £30,000 OTE plus car and perks. Operational ownership. The strategy and the customer, the P and L and the relationships, the business and the deal — all under your own control.

And a platform credible enough, and established enough, to make the next chapter of your career the one you actually want to be remembered for.
