Placing a new MD for a Glasgow bathroom specialist under new ownership — finding a hands-on commercial leader from outside the sector.
Scope Bathrooms is a Glasgow-based bathroom specialist supplying commercial, residential and contract projects across Scotland. Operating from a 12,500 sq ft distribution centre at Hillington Park, the business works with major housebuilders, hotel developers and interior designers, providing design, supply and project management from specification through to delivery. With an established customer base across new build, refurbishment and contract sectors, Scope is well positioned in the Scottish commercial and residential market.
Under new ownership and with the long-standing previous owner transitioning out, the parent group needed to install a new Managing Director to grow Scope and realise its potential. The brief was sector-agnostic — the priority was a hands-on, sales-focused leader with the gravitas to lead the team, the energy to be present in front of customers, and the commercial vision to develop the business beyond its existing base.
The selection process was rigorous. The parent group needed candidates who could demonstrate the right commercial credentials and perform under a demanding interview process. Finding candidates who combined genuine hands-on sales leadership with the appetite for a business of this scale — and who could make a compelling case for why they wanted the role — required a broad search well beyond the bathroom sector.
Sales Recruit UK built a shortlist from sectors where hands-on commercial leadership in a similar business model was demonstrable — specialist trade distribution, contract supply, commercial interiors and related fields. By not constraining the search to the bathroom sector, the brief opened up candidates Scope would never have found conventionally. The SRUK Fit Score process evaluated each candidate across commercial leadership track record, sales culture, business development capability and personal fit with an owner-managed environment.
Sales Recruit UK presented a shortlist from varied backgrounds, all with the ability and vision to take the business forward. The parent group appointed an MD who has taken ownership of the commercial agenda and is developing Scope on a trajectory that would not have been possible had the search been limited to bathroom sector specialists.
