Scolmore is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of wiring accessories, lighting and electrical products, supplying the trade through wholesalers and contractors across the UK. The wider group includes the Scolmore brand alongside ESP, Click Smart and Unicrimp, covering wiring accessories, fire and security, surge protection and electrical fixings. Scolmore products reach end users through electrical wholesalers, contractors and the wider M&E supply chain, and the field sales force is responsible for managing wholesaler accounts, supporting contractor specification and growing share in a competitive electrical products market.

02

The Brief

Sales Recruit UK has placed multiple Area Sales Managers across Scotland for the Scolmore group of brands over six years, covering Scolmore, ESP and Unicrimp. The North West Key Account Manager search was a different shape of brief. Scolmore had already identified a handful of candidates of interest in the market and needed support with outreach, neutral candidate assessment, and the practical work of understanding each candidate's genuine motivations so the role could be positioned in a way that landed.

03

The Challenge

The Scottish ASM market for electrical wiring accessories is a relatively closed pool. The same names circulate, and Scolmore had already exhausted the obvious candidates inside their direct sector. Each search needed to look beyond the wiring accessories market into adjacent construction product markets where the route to market matched, selling through wholesalers and distributors into contractors, specifiers and sometimes social landlords. Cultural fit added another layer of difficulty. Scolmore runs a vibrant, energetic team and candidates who looked right on paper often failed to read the energy of the business in interview.

04

What Sales Recruit UK Did

For the Scottish ASM searches, Sales Recruit UK ran direct market mapping across both the electrical products sector and adjacent merchant-and-contractor markets where candidates already understood the selling dynamics, even if they had to learn a new product set. The SRUK Fit Score process evaluated each candidate across six dimensions, with team-working fit and cultural fit weighted heavily because the Scolmore environment demands both. For the North West Key Account Manager brief, the work was more bespoke. Sales Recruit UK ran direct, neutral outreach to the candidates Scolmore had identified, established each candidate's real motivations through structured assessment, and helped Scolmore position the opportunity in a way that played to those motivations rather than to a generic job description.

05

The Outcome

Sales Recruit UK successfully filled the Scottish ASM roles by drawing from both the direct sector and the adjacent wholesaler-and-contractor markets, working hard to help candidates who had never heard of Scolmore understand why the opportunity was strong. The North West Key Account Manager search was completed using the same fit-led methodology applied to a pre-identified shortlist. Scolmore has returned across multiple searches and multiple brands within the group, which is the clearest measure of a placement process that works.
