Placing a UK Managing Director for Powertee — finding a golf industry insider with the sales leadership credentials to drive UK growth and develop European export opportunities.
Powertee is a specialist manufacturer of automated golf tee-up systems used on golf driving ranges worldwide. Its products are installed at venues ranging from independent driving ranges to premium resort facilities across the UK, Europe and internationally. The business operates within a niche but global market, selling primarily to golf venue operators and range developers through a combination of direct sales and distributor relationships. Powertee's UK operation requires leadership that combines deep credibility within the golf industry with strong commercial capability across new business development and key account management.
Following changes to the international structure of the business and a long-standing incumbent moving on to a new challenge, Powertee needed to bring in a new UK Managing Director to head up the UK operation, drive sales into existing and new markets, and begin developing export opportunities across Europe. This was a sales-biased MD position — the person needed to carry their own number while also building the commercial infrastructure around them.
The golf industry is an insular market where credibility is everything. There are many salespeople who play golf, but far fewer who genuinely understand how golf venue operators think, how purchasing decisions are made at club and range level, and how to develop relationships with the buyers and developers who commission range installations. A candidate without genuine golf industry credibility would struggle to open doors or hold meaningful commercial conversations. At the same time, this was a leadership role with P&L accountability — pure golf industry knowledge without commercial leadership capability was equally insufficient.
Sales Recruit UK targeted candidates within the golf equipment, golf technology and golf venue services sectors — people who had built careers selling into the golf market and understood its commercial dynamics from the inside. The SRUK Fit Score process evaluated candidates across golf industry credibility and network depth, new business development track record, leadership and team-building experience, and the ability to manage an export-facing growth agenda alongside domestic UK sales responsibilities.
Powertee appointed a Managing Director with deep golf industry credentials and the commercial leadership profile the role required. The appointment gave the UK business a credible, connected leader capable of driving both domestic growth and the European export development agenda the parent company had identified as a priority.
